12 year old wants to earn a bit of extra money

Hello,

DD who is 12, 13 in August would like to earn a bit of extra pocket money.

I'm not keen on a paper round. I am going to approach a couple of friends with younger children about babysitting.

Just wondered if anyone had any other ideas?

You're very limited at that age. I think (though I may be wrong), that it's 13 for a paper round, 14 for waitressing (though you're not allowed in the kitchen til you're 16 so many places are reluctnt to take you on at that age) and 16 to work in a shop. Though obviously the babysitting is up to your friends if they're happy to pay her.

How about getting her to ask neighbours/friends if there are any odd jobs that need doing? I'd be happy to pay someone to clean out my garden shed, for instance ...

I think 13 is old enough to 'babysit' a 10 or 11 yr old, one who would probably be fine on their own but just needs company. Probably not old enough to look after a little child though.

How about dog-walking, car-washing, lawn-mowing?

I had a saturday job in a small hairdressers at that age. Hair washing and a bit of cleaning. Might be worth trying any local small ones.

How about her having a clear-out and helping you do a car-boot sale now and then? My DC love it, although they normally spend more than they earn! Or otherwise there's ebay.

Are there any Grandparents she can do odd jobs for?
