What would you do if money went missing in your house

Writing on behalf of my mum - a LOT of money has gone missing from her home - (it's my step-dad's who will not put it in a bank - I know - have told them how stupid that is and that if he insists on doing that then they have to get a safe - not just for security but in case of fire etc)

They don't know who took the money - the only people who had the opportunity (no break in) were my two sisters (19 & step sister 13). Mum doesn't know how to deal with this - they don't want to accuse them but of course this needs to be dealt with. Any suggestions?

Is there anybody else who might have had access - an unaccompanied "meter reader", care assistant, cleaner? Do they leave the doors unlocked at all?

If it's definitely one of your sisters, does either show signs of sudden affluence or of being bulied, perhaps?

Sorry just back to this - No one has access at all - they don't even have meters - out in the sticks in the country

Both sisters are as 'broke' as they normally are - but hadn't thought about the being bullied aspect. My younger DS has had trouble with people at school before - just such a horrible situation to be in

To be fair we both hope to god it's not them - and that it's step-dad who has mis placed it - but he is notoriously tight (for example when he met my mum he knew the serial numbers on his £10 notes!!!) so it seems unlikely.

Have to agree that a man that familiar with his cash is unlikely to have misplaced it, unless he's, um, getting on a bit? Maybe a word with your younger sister about how things are at school is the next step.
