What sort of shoes and coat does your 12/13 yr old dd wear to school ?

Because I am about to lose the plot with dd1.

I am not unreasonable and I do understand the pressures of being fashionable at secondary school but dd is driving me nuts. In Nov when it started to get cold, dd1 moaned that she was freezing all of the time and so I took her and bought a new coat from Tammy Girl. She chose it, and it cost £38, more than I would normally spend on a coat for myself, but it was nice and thick and smart.

Fast forward to now, and she is refusing to wear it to school at all and just goes in her blazer. She said it's not cold.

When she statred in Sept, I let her choose whatever shoes she wanted (within reason) and she picked a plain black pair or ballet pump style shoes from Asda. I knew they'd not last long, but I thought I could hunt for a more robust pair whilst she wore them out.
They went in the bin just before xmas, and now she is wearing her plain black lace up pumps (that were all the rage a while ago for some reason) and is refusing to wear anything else.
I bought her these today and she has tld me to send them back, but the bloody pumps she is wearing are dirty and falling apart.

I tried getting a pair almost identical to the shoes she had in Sept and surprise surprise she doesn't like those either now.

What does everyone else do ? Do you make them wear a coat and decent shoes ??

DD - no coat and shoes that have holes in but she won't get rid of them.

I'm waiting for school to write and complain to me but I've decided to save the big arguments for big stuff ( sex, drugs etc) and just turn a blind eye to the shoes and coats.

Ah thank god for this thread. DD drives me to distraction over this. Her lovely, smart black overcoat (£45 worth) has been in her locker since October - apparently she keeps forgetting to bring it home. When I picked her up the other night and said she was to go straight back into school and bring it out, she'd forgotten her locker key . I'm sure it's not in there and she's probably lost it. All winter she's been going to school in just a jumper (under duress) and has to be shouted at to put her blazer on which is usually crumpled up in her bag!

She has new shoes every half term (normally ballet type pumps but with a decent sole) but she only seems to get a few weeks out of them and comes home in them encrusted in mud, scuffed and with the fronts hanging off. I have given up now and let her wear her black Primark pumps. The scruffiness does get to me too! Hate losing the control of making sure she is immaculate when she leaves the house .

Very glad she is not the only one.

My 13-year old wears Clarks school shoes (pumps with a bar), and a school blazer and school uniform coat.
