15yo son birthday amount

hi all
it's my ds 15th birthday soon, and he wants cash from us to put towards buying a good, quality tv. He's kept some of his christmas money back to go towards it.
My question is, how much, in monetary value do you, would you, spend on yours birthday pressie?
I'm expecting a wide variety of answers and thanks in advance xx

Dd1 will be 15 v soon. We will spend around 30 pounds.

Probably about £60 if we were giving just cash and no presents

It depends, we give our dc's 30 pounds each but if there was something they wanted we would spend a little bit more. If i could afford it i would buy the tv (using his birthday money and the x-mas money he has saved).

Could you wait and see what money he gets for his birthday from family etc and then give him the rest of the money for the TV?

well, he's expecting a largish amount from certain family members due to many reasons, so I'm sure all in all, he'll end up with enough money to buy it himself.
I just don't want to give him too much for fear of him taking it for granted that next year will be an even bigger amount of money...and tbh, he is going thru an ungrateful phrase at the monment. So basically I dont wanna give too much unecessarily, or too little either, if u see where I'm coming from

I don't have a set budget for presents for my DDs. It depends on what they want/need and how much spare cash we have at the time. Their birthdays are in the same week, so we tend to spend a similar amount on both. If I were you I'd give him whatever amount you think is reasonable. Personally, £100 would be my maximum cash gift. If he's saved enough Christmas money and gets birthday money from others, then he will probably have enough. If he was a bit short, then I'd maybe top it up to buy the TV he wants.

Depends what they want. Often they don't know and so around £50. DS1 has his BD on 2nd January so I tend to spend more on the birthday treat/party than the pressy.
This year though he asked for a tv. I've never allowed tvs in rooms before but he is 14 now so I agreed to buy a TV as joint Xmas/BD present it was £165. (He did get other little bits as well).

I fund ds's birthday present and I only spend about £100, but dh buys his Christmas present which varies between £300 and £700.

A decent TV will cost him about £500, so maybe you could give him £200 towards it and other relatives could chip in maybe £20 or £40 each?

Would people really consider letting their children have a 500 pound TV? Clearly I live in a different world!

DD was 14 in October and I bought her a personalized pink hoodie and an IOU for £50. I still haven't given the money to her yet!

So, I think I'd give £50. That is about the amount I'd spend on her for her birthday.

Maureen - sorry for hijack but where did you get the hoodie from? I think dds would like those!
