angry teenage son who cant speak to girls

my son is 16 years old and is quite and shy, but good looking!!

he has always struggled with talking to girls and now he is so very angry and miserable. It is like walking on eggshells in our house.

He plays constantly on computer/xbox games and goes out occasionally with mates, but i think its his lack of success with girls that upsets him

but he has to be nice to them first, and he just seems to spit venom at them!!!

what can i do/say to help him

Do you 'think' or do you KNOW its his shyness thats making him angry? Eg, has he told you as much

I got my kids to join lots of activity based groups which were mixed. That way they there wasn't the pressure to talk because there was a common goal, such as playing music, cross country running. My son, then 16, decided to join a local history re-enactment group, based round the Vikings era. He got to dress up in chain armour, use a sword, long bow and fight in battles, under close supervision from the older men. The women in the group act out all the domestic side of viking life ( not so much fun) There are groups for all eras of history and the young lads have a great time.
Do a google search and see what is near you.

How does he get on with girls at school? Could you suggest he "practises" chatting to the girls in class. It must be very hard to pluck up courage to talk to a girl he is keen on, so maybe learn to just make friends with girls.
MY DS is a bit like this and I have tried to teach him some simple social skills such as listen to what girls talk about and what they are interested in. I had to spell out that they really, really don't want to know his top score on the xbox.
