Just had the loveliest and easiest birthday party ever for 14 year old DS

His birthday is 2nd Jan and anyone who has read the other thread on lousy dates to have a birthday will know that 2nd January seems to be the worst.
I've always tried to do something really special for a party as he never wants much in the way of presents after Christmas.
When both my boys were little I used to do the magician/entertainer thing. Then we've had skating, laser zone etc.

Always stressful, especially when you have a houseful of over excited little boys.

This year he invited 3 girls and 3 boys. His idea for a retro party. They played Twister for an hour. Lots of oppotunities for boys to land on girls and vice versa .
Then we made pizza and they all sat around the table drinking pop from wine glasses, followed by a DVD and popcorn. They finished off with a snowball fight outside in the dark.
No mess. No noise. No shouting or squealing. All home by 8pm. Bliss.

I think the girls had a civilising effect on the boys who were all keen to impress and on their best behaviour.

How lovely

Difficult age 14, too old for things like Lazar zone and too young for proper house parties. Sounds like you hit the right balance.
