Practical help for DD and periods

DD is 12 and slim. She is blossoming and we have been talking about when her periods start etc. Suggested she carries some pads and spare pants in her bag but the pads are too big for her knickers. She is wearing age 9-10 knickers - does anyone know which brand of pads would be narrow enough? Thanks

Pantyliners?

I'm very much a mooncup and reuseable fabric pads type myself; depending on how she feels about it they might be an option to introduce? Neither are really scary once you get to grips with them and there's lots of advice about on the net.

I am not sure she will cope with mooncup in first few months and being at school...

Dd wears 9-10 knickers and is still able to use Always towels, with wings.

Another vote for the Always pads. Has she practised putting them in - I know it's simple enough but when you're fretting about having started, it can be quite tricky?

Definitely spare knickers in the bag. Maybe also a carrier bag to put the other knickers in if they get blood on them?

Both Boots and Asda do a teen range have you looked at them?

Same vote really, Always pads are not like the bricks I had to start with, that's for sure! My DD had this tiny purse thing, not much bigger than an Always, folded, wrapped towel, and she carried two towels and two paracetamol, just in case. She still does.

Much better to be prepared, she doesn't want to get caught out..

Pixie is right too, get her to try putting one one her knicks, then when it is the real thing, she won't get in a pickle....
