Went out shopping today with most of the family and left my 14 year old dd waiting for her 14 year old boyfriend to arrive. I didn't think anything of it as I trust her and she often stays on her own or has friends round. But on the way home I suddenly wondered whether I am asking for trouble or whether her boyfriends mum would mind them being on their own.I have a good relationship with my dd but when is it not ok to leave them on their own age 14/15 or 16 or never!!!

How would you feel about her ahving sex at this age?

They'll find a way whatever you do (I always did!). It's going to happen some time however hard you try to stop them being alone.

I think all you can do is calmly discuss with her what your expectations are and make sure you she knows she can talk to you about anything.

Yes she knows she can talk to me about anything and she does, but I hadn't thought about her having sex, it never even crossed my mind and then I thought perhaps I should consider it she's nearly 15. I would hate her to have sex for the sake of it, as thats what I did and its no fun and it takes ages to realise that sex is important. I think I may just have a chat if I leave her again with the boyfriend.

I remember being 14 and you are right to be worried.
I agree that BF's mum might not approve, or might want to have a "chat" with her son as you do with your dtr.
As a mum of boys with pure testosterone in their veins instead of blood I would not put temptation in their way. I agree that they will always find a way but at least make it difficult for them!

Danthe4th - that's the message I've tried to get through - only do it if you really want to and think you're with the right person plus, never believe that all your friends are doing it! Obviously we've covered all the contraception/morality issues too. Fortunately boys seem terrified of her.
