I don't think that thy are hairy but she does!

She is 13; is it too young to let her do anyhting?

and if not, what is the best thing?

i have had a wax for years but don't think she would like that!

My daughter was the same. She will shave her legs anyway so you might as well let her do it, otherwise she will get stick from other girls.

hester · 24/04/2009 22:35

Reluctantly, I think I have to say it's not too young. It's just horrid to be the only hairy-legged teen if all your peers are bald-limbed. Why not just show her how to use a Venus razor and let her get on with it? Wax if she really wants but she might have to have a bit more life experience of pain (periods, for example, or spotty boyfriends) before she's ready to go there.

gill89 · 24/04/2009 22:36

thanks.

did she just have a go at shaving by herself?

No no no, no shaving! Hair removal cream if absolutely necessary, but waxing best, with the motherly accompaniment of "You have to suffer to be beautiful"..

gill89 · 24/04/2009 22:37

thanks hester.

i thought at 13 she would be the only one thinking about it!

how about getting her aladyshave thingy 9do they even make these anymore?) less faffy than a proper razor and less risk of ingrowing hairs ect, it might be a good first step?

CrapolaMama · 24/04/2009 22:39

a good friend of mine was taken to the salon by her Mum from an early age for waxing, and it's something she has elegantly stuck to, and has hardly any hairs on her legs and is a well groomed type. I'd be inclined to do that I think if dds are interested when they're older.
When I was about 13 I started shredding my legs with crap razors which wasn't a good look!

gill89 · 24/04/2009 22:39

will buy her some veet or something tomorrow

thank you

my three girls all have been shaving their legs since they were 10. I did it for them the first few times, and then they took over, with good results.

they wanted to (didn;t need to, but you know how girls get) as they do ballet and so all the other girls did. I let them, as in all honesty, it was let them or they might try on their onw with bloody results.

they are all gonna want to shave or wax at some point, so IMHO, you have to help them once they start wanting to.

FfreckleFface · 24/04/2009 22:48

I have a scar on my ankle bone where I tore a chunk of skin off with a rusty bic I rescued from the bathroom bin because my mother refused to let me shave.

My friend, on the other hand, has practically bald legs now because her mother started taking her for a monthly wax when she was 13. (We are 27, by the way.)

Give into it, girls can be awful with teasing about this sort of thing, and as soon as the boys get wind of it it'll get worse.

Plus, salon trips could be something nice for the two of you to do together, maybe with tea and cake afterwards for being brave?

SlartyBartFast · 24/04/2009 22:50

dd aged 9 did it the other day, without my knowledge, then told me
surely this is far too young!?

notoverit · 24/04/2009 23:00

I started shaving my legs very early I wouldn't be surprised if I was 9.

If you dont mind paying for your 13 year old to get her legs waxed that would be the best option as it will stop them from getting really hairy.

I wish I never start shaving.

nappyaddict · 24/04/2009 23:02

I got mine waxed from 9 so I certainly would let her remove them if she wants. I would get her to try a wax at least once and then if she doesn't like it she could try a hair removal cream. Make sure she takes 2 asprin before hand to numb the pain.

BeckhamSpice · 24/04/2009 23:07

My best friend was very dark haired and was shaving at 11.

Tho' as she just shaved to half way up her thighs - to the edge of her gym skirt - she was always accidently flashing her hairy 'cycling shorts'

hennipenni · 01/05/2009 14:45

My DD starting to shave hers at 13, she had tried veet type stuff but she has very coarse, dark hairs and we found the creams didn't really work. I showed her how to do it last summer and she hasn't looked back since.

Remotew · 01/05/2009 20:03

I have paid for DD to get hers waxed twice now. Full leg and bikini. She is neary 15 and wants it doing every couple of months.
