13 yr old girls - what do yours wear on their feet to school please?

DD1 is wearing a pair of ballet pump type shoes, as do all her friends (yes, that's the root of the problem), and her feet were soaking tonight.

I suggested she got some more substantial shoes or boots to wear as the weather seems to be persistently awful.

She really can't continue all day, every day with wet and cold feet.....can she?

Same really, but she is wearing ones with a bar across at the moment. I did suggest nice boots, which I know she likes wearing, but she won't for school because nobody else does...if school let them wear Uggs, on the other hand, I'm sure they would happily sweat into them all summer

Mine saw the light after trashing some cheap pairs in quick succession and bought a pair that are Kickers branded - kind of look like pumps, but have a strap going over. They DO have sturdy soles (praise the lord).
They must pass the cool test but luckily also pass the mum test. I'll try and find a link to them.

Sensible Clarks ones with a bar, but quite trendy .. she has a long way to walk and ballet pumps don't cut it

However in this weather she's worn her Uggs (school has boot amnesty until snow finishes) and the whole school is Ugg City. Though I think they're no more practical than shoes in the wet.

they were wearing their ballet-style shoes, but have resorted to pumps the last couple of weeks, which altho look slighty better for their feet, are fabric rather than leather so as bad cold/wet wise.

but there is no talking sense into teenage girls, they know it all dont'cha know!!!

Ballet pumps.
Although she doesn't like shoes, so guess its lucky that she wears any at all and doesn't go round barefoot like some ragamuffin

Good job sometimes its the FC that has to put up with it not me lol .. if i had my way it'd be rockports or kickers like my son

Ones a bit like redpandas link but look a bit more ballet pump style (with a proper sole) They have a bar over and came from M&S I think.

Luckily for us our school has a total ban on ballet pumps, the uniform stipulates sturdy shoes - and they reinforce it

curse of the ballet pumps!

I bought DD1 a good pair of leather ones from New Look but she has left them in the changing room and now they are gone. Grrrrrr.

I will put the Kickers to her now and see what she thinks. They look like a good compromise to me!

DD1 has Rhino shoes similar to the Kickers RedPanda linked to. They are not allowed to wear boots of any description.

No - she's not going to go for the Kickers! I am going to have to trawl round the shops and then probably end up with another pair of cheap ballet shoes.

I did laugh this week at a gang of girls inching there way through yhr thick snow in ballet pumps!

DD actually decided to wear her (cool funky coloured) wellies for the walks to school lately, and change there. Although one day she stayed in wellies all day!(6th form).

yeah, just a blazer with shirt hanging out and no jumper. She wants me to buy her a cardigan but I have told her that if she doesn't need a jumper then I really don't need to buy her a cardigan. Hah!

fleece lined suede boots, slightly in teh style of uggs but much nicer looking and black.

Same. Cheap plastic ballet type pumps which they all wear even in the snow. I've given up now, I just can't wait for the fashion to change. I just don't know why she wants to sit with wet feet all day, but that's her choice.

Sketchers flat shoes. But in this weather she sometimes wears her trainers to walk to school in and changes when she gets there. i also make her take a pair of dry socks to put on once she gets there. (still snow and ice here. )

School type shoes- Clarkes-sensible. Has to have special permission to wear leather boots in cold weather (I write a note for medical reasons). Doubt trainers are allowed.

Oh, Iam SOOO glad someone brought this up! I have been rolling my eyes with exasperation and scorn watching girls tiptoeing to school through the snow, ice and torrential rain ove the past ten days or so. No sooner are we finally spared the sight of them exposing their goddamn stomachs beneath those silly parkas that only just skimmed their ribcage in arctic temperatures, now they want to get frostbite and trench-rot in their toes. Jeez.....But will they be told? Will they? In my selective memory I'm perfectly sure I was never that dim and vain.

dd1 has these, somewhat against her will, but I'm afraid I put my foot down wrt the cheap plastic ballet pumps.

They are filthy and unpolished though, natch.

I think they look really nice and practical but I know my dd (13) wouldn't wear them. I'm afraid we have the cheap plastic ballet pumps (and soaking wet feet every time it rains/ snows)

Mind you, I would still rather that than she wanted 4 inch stillettos, so I guess the fashion could be worse!

I am left open mouthed at what the girls wear on their feet to the our kids school. Those silly little 'ballet slippers' mean the girls must constantly sit in class with wet feet.

I wish the school would absolutely ban them and send girls home if they turn up in them. I also wish they would make them wear coats as most of them were coming to school without coats in the snow last week. Madness!

I am rather a puritan about school uniform.

If you are thinking of moving your kids to a senior school - just stand outside at 8.30 and look to see whether uniform is enforced or not.

Personally I don't think most school uniforms are appropriate clothing for the winter temperatures we've been having lately. Ds's class were not allowed out in the snow and I'm not surprised- those flimsy trousers and thin jumpers are clearly inadequate to keep the cold out. Much prefer my nephew's Swedish school where they have no uniform but children wear sensible clothes.

Leather, proper soled ballet style pumps for dd1 13 - took about six shopping trips before we found something that met the approval of both of us.

DD2 11 has proper school shoes from Clarks.

They both wore wellies and then changed into shoes when it snowed - dd1 tells me that patterned wellies are cool!
