Whats your policy on them?

My DSD turned 15 in December and is now asking permission for to have her belly buttom pierced.
My hubby (her dad) told her that he needs to consult with me (in the spirit of a few changes in our family) and while we were discussing he said he is ok with it but won't gove her the green light unless I agree.

And I'm a bit unsure... Do you guys think 15 (barely) is old enough? I find it a bit too young?

I would let her, she will prob just get it done without your permission if not.

I've told my dd (11) she can't get her ears pierced until she is 16 so I'm probably not the best person to ask

i think there is a hierarchy of piercings. personally i think its ascist not to let someone get their ears pierced until 16. i think from aged 13, they are old enough to make a descision.

however, my problem is this - why get your belly button pierced if no one is going to see it ?

therefore people are neant to see the decoration of your belly hole

ergo smaller tops showing belly hole decoration

equals - slag looking common chav. -

we may all have our different values - but i dont want my daughter looking like common slag until...erm... well i just dont. so that would have to be when she is out of my legal care.

my son wants his lip pierced when he is 16 - i don't like it but i reckon he will look like a twat - which in the hierarchy of things in my book, is better than looking like a slag.

I had mine done. Very painfull.
No to eyebrows and silly things on the face.
I saw a girl last week with a piercing in the back of her neck......? WTF?

My mother was always easy on me with that type of thing. This may sound silly but it made me feel more mature because i was old enough to make a decision about these little things.

Till this day i still have eleven piercings on my ears (seven on my right and four on my left) and my tongue pierced. Each has a memory behind it. I haven't had a piercing since i was 16 (I'm now 24) so from personal experience i think it is unlikely your DSD will go into the extremes and take advantage and get 'Britney Spears' tattooed onto her leg or something. If you allow her to do this she won't think it a big deal and get the 'rebel' feeling.

I think 15 is to young for any piecings except ears.

I do think it's a bit too young too, but she had her ears pierced since she was 5-6 and now has two holes in each ear.

And I agree that if one gets their belly pierced it's meant for other people to see it. But since she is a cheerleader and her stomach is on display most times, plus we live in California where once summer hits everyone dresses skimpy so I don't think this will drastically change her style.

I would rather for her to wait a couple of years but I don't want her hating me and hubby seems to not have a problem?

I wish i'd had mine done when i had a lovely flat stomach.

You could lose one the size of a leg bone in my belly button now.

Lins75, I've got piercings (eyebrow, some odd ear ones, and planning on my tongue). The only concern would be that any body piercing takes time to heal (so if she is going to be covered up much of the time, risk of clothes getting caught on piercing).

Secondly, they can be quite addictive, so be prepared, if she wants on one done and as it, there is a chance she may want another one done.

Hi, my 13yr old asked if she could have her belly button pierced for her 14th birthday, I said yes. Since asking me she has spoken about it to some of her older friends who have advised her to wait as she still has a lot of growing to do. Not quite sure what difference that makes, but she herself has decided to wait a bit. I can't see any problems with belly button piercings though as long as all cleaning/hygiene issues are followed.

Piercings heal. Tattoo's are for life, I know which I would prefer my dd to have.
As an aside, I saw a teen with a piercing the other day, it was in the bit between your thumb and finger. It made me feel ill, and looked incredibly painful.
