why do teens decide to tell you stuff that will worry you. but there is nothing you can do?

ds is at 6th form college.
some course work was due in, but he was of sick and couldn't finish it(had to use college dark room) so he has missed the deadline for it to be assesed(think it is sent off)
so he decides to tell me today that his freinds recon he will be kicked of the course.
he hasn't been able to see the teacher yet as the teacher hasn't been in (ds didn't go back until last wednesday)
so now I am all wrorried.

Two words 2shoes. Extenuating circumstances. Does he have a doctor's note for the illness? If he can prove he was genuinely ill, the chances are they'll accept the work/keep him on the course. We have this at uni and I seem to remember it being at college too. Get him to look into it ASAP.

Ah, I see. I'm not sure what to suggest then. Hope it works out for him though.

He might not have missed the actual deadline for it being sent off. I know that colleges quite often give the students deadline for the course work to be handed in but it is actuaky only a college deadline. I know that happened at DD2#s college did.
This is to make sure that everything is in on time. I hope this is making sense.
Also if this is the first time he has missed a deadline the I'm sure he won't get thrown off the course. I would phone the college to and ask them about it.

Get on the phone to his tutor asap and make sure you discuss it with them before they decide to do anything.

I doubt he will be kicked out, but if it is A level course work there is a chance he could fail that particular module.

But talk to them and see what can be done about it.

That's a fair point, he can always re-submit the coursework next year, or at least I think you can. I was offered that option at college when I failed mine! (I didn't, but wish I had now!).

he should see his tutor and ask for an extension. if he was off ill then i am sure they would allow it.

seems he is doing well and it was a small bit of the course work, so teach reckons it won't affect him too badly. he is now going to have to work bloody hard to make the marks up(but won't kill him!)

They tell us things that worry us because it worries them too and they need us to guide, reassure or shut up and listen when appropriate. It's a good thing.
