My 12 year old daughter wants to go away for christmas with her dad

My daughters dad has asked her if she wants to go to Ireland for 2 weeks over christmas. I'm quite upset that she does not want to spend christmas with me and is quite happy to leave me on my own. I also appreciate this is a great opportunity for her and she loves being with loads of people. With all her dads other kids and grandchildren there would be a huge crowd and she would love that. Half of me wants her to go and have a great time and half of me is sad that she does not want to be home with me. Also it might be my mums last christmas with us, my brother only see her at christmas and I have not mentioned she might not be here yet because I know they will be dissappointed. Also with things as they have been between us lately I'm thinking at least it will get her out of her bedroom and off msn for 2 weeks and I can have a break from all the rowing. But I still love my little girl and want her back the way she was 6 months ago before she was morphed into an alien.

It's natural for you to be upset that your DD won't be with you for christmas, but as you say it sounds like it will be a nice trip for her and she will spend the time with other family members. It is likely that she will miss you more than she realises and come home with a bit more appreciation for you.

Is it possible to have a pre christmas christmas with your family and daughter ?

Yes you could be right. It might make her realise she does miss me. My brother arrives home from Italy on the 20th and they will leave on the 21st so not much time.

Perfect timing, big family meal on the evening of his arrival.

I think that could be the way to go Rookie. My dd spent Xmas in Oz with her dad and his family 2 years ago, you do miss them, but hey ho and all that...sorry about your alien, she will come back to you one day!

Thanks for your comments. I feel a bit better now. I think I will get used to the idea (still be sad though).
