wash! If she has one bath a month its a miracle, and she never takes a shower. She does wash her hair every couple of days - but i say whats the point of that when the rest of her is manky! she does not wash in the morning or the evening, and its rare to get her underware in the wash! I have begged her to clean herself, threatened her, tried to have a conversation with her - all to no avail. so today i blew my top. I kinda think its up to her, actions and consequences, and shes old enough to decide for herself. But then i think i am her mother and i should be forcing the issue. It reflects badly on us as a family. The boyfriend issue doesnt apply as he lives in another town and its more of a phone relationship - so the arguement of being clean for him doesnt work. The last time she had a bath it was because i told her she smelt. This morning when she went to school i put her pyjamas in the wash cause they stank too. what is her problem!!!!!

don't know but if you find out I'd liek to know. Mine will shower every couple of days but I have to keep reminding them!

Does she have mates? At this age they are far more likely to listen to a friend's advice than a parent, or any adult really. Could you have a friend chat to her about it?

Ds1 15 went through this phase last year. I told him he had choices. Either I could stand in the bathroom with him to make sure he showered or I could post his lack of hygiene on my Facebook page. He showers daily now

she does have friends but either they dont notice or they have similar issues!!

Like the face book idea - that may work....

pmsl weeble >high five>

it takes threats - and yes they aren't three and you would expect them to do it themselves - and somehow its worse when its a girl ( although we aren't allowed to say that really)

found a solution for my ds (15) wash n go.

he wont use 'dove' its girly ( and pink)

so am thinking.....maybe her own toiletry bag - start off in a nice way - go shopping for toiletries, her own bag toothbrush, swish flannel - maybe in the shape of her fave animal like a cow or something ( my dd (15) would love that!)

her own fave bubble bath
bath bomb
those dissolving thingies that soften the water
deoderant

maybe tie it in with gettin new make-up tooo

and the great thing is as we are comming up to xmas there are loads of novelty bath products and lots of choice.

My 17 year old DS is the same! Drives me absolutely insane!

Tell them you've had a phonecall from their form tutor at school re the smell- that'll teach 'em! Ha

crkm · 07/11/2008 13:00

thanks custardo - good idea but she cant use ordinary smellies due to skin condition so all those gorgeous smellies (i love lush!) are out!! Her taste in make up is way beyond my budget (and should be hers too!) but agree with the idea if i can adapt it a bit. dont want to reward her though!! she is a big enough drain on finances - she keeps growing!!

Could she get in the shower when she washes her hair, or is that out with her sensitive skin? At least she would be getting wet.
My 14 yo dd does have showers (empties the hot water tank) but just recently noticed she's not putting clothes in the laundry basket, so must be wearing dirty ones. why? why?

crkm · 08/11/2008 21:07

We recently had a shower put in - one of the reasons being i thought it would be easier for her to wash her hair (and herself at the same time). She used it once. refused to use it again. god knows why! Today i asked her to put her clothes in the wash for me, when i looked there were some undies and socks - but they were as clean as the day i put them in her drawer, she was adament they were 'used' but i am not stupid!! aaarrrggghhh!!!! I am at the point where i just dont want her near me. I cant stand her at the moment. horrible though that is to say.
