What on earth to get DD 13. It gets harder each year to think of something and of course it gets more expensive too. Gone are the days of a few toys from the ELC, that was easy. What do you get yours? Your ideas would be very welcome. What do you think is a resonable amount to spend?

It does get a lot harder.

Mine's a boy(14), and the main present, ie the one from dh & I over the last few years have been:

'07 Playstation 3 & a few games £400 ish
'06 Ipod £150 ish
'05 Drumkit £3k

This year I honestly haven't a clue. I think he'd like a flat screen TV with all the gizmos but that'll be about £500 and we're trying to plough all spare money into savings at the moment, in prep. for the tough times ahead.

Will watch this thread for ideas.

£3K for a drumkit?

Molly100 · 04/11/2008 13:20

Dont know which is harder really, boy or girl. Guess the boy must be harder to buy for at least with girls you can get all the girly bath stuff, makeupand such like, but even so, to buy quality brands (makeup and bath) it still costs a fortune and doesnt look much either! So far DD has asked for books and DVDs but we always get her a main pres and this year it is ????????????? Last ear she got a Phone and karaoke machine.

my ds (13) is getting everyone to chip in for a ps3, and we have bought him an hd computer monitor to go with it. he will also get some cds; the Writers Tale by Russell Davis, and the complete series 4 of Dr Who. I may buy a couple of ps3 games for him, and some books. He'll also get Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk on dvd.

lilibet · 04/11/2008 21:58

Herbie - my dd is 20 on the 14th Dec!

She wants a wii fit and heated rollers.

Ds1 is 15 and is getting a new cd player

Ds2 will be 12 by then and is getting his first tv - non flat screen!!

mumeeee · 04/11/2008 23:19

DD3 16 wants a new tv ( she has an old one of ours and it is on it's last legs now). MP3 player and lots of CD's. She has a birthday in January so won't be getting all that for Christmas. DD2 who will be 19 in December doesn't really know what she wants she isn't a materalistic girl and she had an Ipod for her 18th birthday last year. She is thinking about a new phome and she likes clothes.
DD1 21 who is getting married next year wants mostly money and books.

funkypumpkin · 05/11/2008 12:24

DS1 14 - Is getting money £130 as he likes to go shopping just after xmas for new clothes etc plus I have got him some stocking fillers boxers and facial stuff as he like to look after it, vain like his mother

DS2 11 - Would like an Wii which I am getting 2nd hand and then books and dvd's as stocking fillers

tatt · 05/11/2008 22:17

have told my kids they are spoilt and should get nothing this year. They will get Wii Fit (to share), maybe clothes, credit on their phones, electric razor for boy, make-up for girl, books - which they may not read, CDs.

Really think kids get too much and am very tempted to give them hardly anything.

SaffySpook · 06/11/2008 08:40

DS2 is 15 in a couple of weeks. It gets harder and more expensive every year. I think he would like an ipod touch and a new phone. One for birthday, the other xmas. He is also getting into clothes but looks at jeans that are £65 .

brimfull · 06/11/2008 08:48

DD wants some driving lessons, will probably buy her a few bits clothes and makeup as well

brimfull · 06/11/2008 08:49

what's an ipod touch?

funkypumpkin · 06/11/2008 09:32

Saffy I would be happy if my DS1 14 would look at jeans at £65 he likes jeans that are around £95 needless to say he got himself a pair with his birthday money but he has now grown out of them...Have thought about buying a pair of tesco value jeans and sewing the designer label on them

thebody · 18/11/2008 13:53

money always talks, and if you want to encourage cleanliness then get Gran and Aunts to buy smellies. The hardest thing to come to terms with is the room not being filled with large parcels, like it is when they are tiny.

KatieScarlett2833 · 18/11/2008 13:57

My DS (12) want's an X Box and a "surprise".

Bless.
