Night on the town

DD (14) was invited to a friend's birthday party, pizza followed by a sleepover. I assumed / was led to believe they were going somewhere near the girl's house, with parents not too far away, but next day found out the girls had gone to west end of London (about 1/2 hr bus journey), had something to eat there and came home around 10pm (allegedly). DD claims she didn't know of this plan beforehand, but obviously didn't let us know where she was going either. Pretty sure we wouldn't have let her if we'd known - the atmostphere can get a bit boozy for my liking on a Friday night (from what I remember ). What do you think? It's bound to crop up again. Am I as overprotective and out of touch as DD claims?

Nope you are not overprotective. 14 is still very young. DD started going to under 18s alcohol free evenings at a small local nightclub at that age. Nothing like West End stuff.

If she really was home by 10pm I woudln't be too worried, but I would be having words with the birthday girls parents.

Well, yes. Would like to think somebody knew where they were, and when and how they were getting home. Kicking myself now for not ringing beforehand, but was very short notice.

It would be better to have known beforehand, and be on hand to pick up if required I thonk. Especially as you say about the boozy atmosphere in town of an evening. In principle though, I think going into town with friends for a specific event, with a safe escort home, should be ok at this age, I think.

You are not being overprotective. But if they wre together and were home by 10 then they were prpbably fine.
