teens driving me mad

they BOTH - girl as well as boy - are uncommunicative and have no idea what they want to do with their lives. Both bright, both able to choose to do anything, neither seems to want to do anything but laze around. I know its not unusual for teenage boys - but a girl?

Yup, girls do it too - they will come out of it in the end - how old are they?

she is the epitome of idleness - i am with you! how old is yours?

my dd - just 15 - is a nightmare!! its impossible to have a chat because she acts like everything you say is a criticism - god - the faces she pulls and the under the breath comments !!! aaarrrggghhhh. today i asked her to sort her clothes out - get rid of what doesnt fit or she doesnt like. after 30 minutes of arguing about it i gave up! she refuses to do any school work, and spends her days shut up in her bedroom. lazy hardly covers it!!! trouble is she is the eldest of four and her attitude/arguing is rubbing off on the others!

I've had arun in tonight. Breakfast pots not washed etc. The F word was mentioned, not by me. Got an apology. Anyway she isn't usually that bad just asked me to tell her what I want her to do in future .

lazy is too small a word to describe dd

daughter has to choose A levels this year, so is the one worrying me most. She doesn't talk to other adults much either and gets C for oral english (A for written), so how will she ever do a university or job interview? Doesn't seem interested in seeing friends, while her brother will at least arrange his own social life. I know it could be worse (not much swearing, doesn't even like drink yet) but there must be something I can do to improve her verbal skills.

ditto my ds - bright but totally unmotivated, no idea what he wants to do with his life, no real grip that he HAS to do somethign with his life! doesn't socialise.

one thing about my ds (18) is that he really doesn't like teenagers, being a teen and all that teen stuff - thinks getting pissed is pathetic, thinks footie is boring as hell, likes the idea of girls but not that fussed really. obsessed wit computer games. I think he will be fine if he makes it to 25 but I may have buried him under the patio by then

That is fairky normal for teenagers, DD2 18 is veginning to speak to us a bit now but she is still fairly uncommunicative.
She can be incredjbly lazy.
She did well in her A levels ( better than she expected). She was going to take a gap year annd find a job. But now has discovered that Bath university has a place on a Musical Theatre Foundation degre course that she is interested in. But has she phoned about the course or phoned up about any jobs? No. In fact she is still in bed now.

After I had finshed posting this. DD2 got up and I had a long conservation with her, ell long for her. She then decided to try clearing and spent the whole afternoon loking for places, As a result she may have got a place on a Musical Theartre degree at Thames Vallry University.
They are sorting out an audition date for her as we are on holiday on the day they are holding most of the auditions.

Please can anyone help, I am feeling very depressed about this. I got a bit upset the other day after 3 days of having my son and girlfriend to stay and she never said thankyou for anything I did. I do like her but this does make me sad. Husband told son I was upset and DS and girlfriend both came back after dropping her off and said thankyou. I feel so petty, but then girlfriend said "I can see where he gets it from" ie stress. That upset me even more! I am confused - am I in the wrong?

She sounds very rude. Delicate territory. Maybe talk to your son yourself about it - but I would not do the 'hurt' thing, I would do the 'good manners' thing

Thanks for the advice. I was always taught to be polite and say thankyou when visiting people and now I find most people are rude. I just find myself putting up with bad behaviour just to keep the peace, especially with this person. Perhaps I shouldn't have pretended all this time that I minded and then it would not have upset me so much.

nelly59, she is just rude. Which brings me onto my 16 year old son. Would that he just grunted! His every utterance is unpleasant and he is also the oldest of 4.

Thanks for all your comments and help. I know teenagers are supposed to be rebellious, but rudeness has nothing to do with being a teenager, some people are already rude before becoming one! I think mothers of teenagers deserve a medal! So much easier when they are toddlers

By the way, I work with toddlers!
