My DS1 (13) has been getting some painful spots mostly around his hairline, temples particularly.
I've noticed there is some scarring now - wondered if he might need some medication or does anyone know of any good spot creams? Does Freederm work?

Talk to your doc.

I believe some kids can be given a very low dose of antibiotics to keep the infection at bay. That's what someone told me anyway.

My DH had it really badly when he was a teen and gp prescribed anti biotics, but it does cause diarrhoea. he never used it because of that. tea tree oil is good, as is witch hazel and sudocrem. they all have distinctive smells, but worth a try maybe at night.

also, caffeine doesn't help - does he drink a lot of coke / coffee? plenty of water will help flush his system of toxins and a healthy diet works wonders.

He loves drinking lucozade, especially the caffeine one! I keep telling him it's no good for him but will he listen?!
Maybe he might take some notice if i tell him it might be making his spots worse.
Will talk to the doctor too and try some sudocrem - thanks!

You might find this helps

As a sufferer myself, I find taking a daily probiotic and using a Dermalux light very effective.
