First period product recommendations

Parents of teen girls, what do you recommend to have ready for DDs first period?

i grew up in the Caribbean and my first product was a tampon, which was a bit brutal, although have used them ever since.

DD is going to be 11 soon, what new things are out there for girls?

I bought a range of pads from the supermarket that I knew I'd be easily able to get hold of and let dd try them out. Plus a pack of m and s period pants.
Dd preferred the supermarket own brand pads as felt they were the most secure and absorbent.
We later went on to try tampons and then a mooncup.
Dds preference is period pads and or pants at the start and end of a period and a mooncup as well for days 2-5.
Also a period tracker was helpful. Dd has bad periods and being able to show the gp the pattern was helpful on giving medication and eventually deciding the pill was best for her. It also helps keep a track of things.

Lilets do teen starter packs with pads and tampons or just teen pads. From memory, thinking she’d probably not want tampons from the off, I bought dd a couple of sizes of the pads.

The first and sometimes second period can be lighter.

I also bought her a pack of the modi bodi teen period pants. To add, she preferred these until she was a bit older.

I got our girl the lillets pack. AFAIR, they were pads. Just small sized

I'd say several different packs of pads with a range of absorbencies. I was given one pack for light periods... and mine were incredibly heavy to start with, so flooded everywhere (which was embarrassing when changing for PE).

Period pants seem popular on here, which might be a good alternative, although she'll need to change them regularly (including at school, depending on her flow, so just bear that in mind).

We swear by reusable pads in this house, which she wears with period pants. She’s had all the different disposable pads and did use tampons (Asda tampax version) but always goes back to the reusable pads (as do I) because they are much more comfortable, especially at night.

Apart from the first few days, DD has always used period pants. I had a Lillets starter pack waiting for when she started. We went to buy period pants locally, but they weren’t up to much, so i consulted MN and ordered some Modi Bodis.
