Did I/am I doing the right thing?

Dd (12) had a Baker Day today. She arranged a trip to the beach with some friends - all year7s. She rang them yesterday evening to check they were all coming. We were to meet at 10.30 this morning. One girl didn't turn up. Repeated calls to her mobile and home weren't answered. In the end, at 11.15 I decided not to wait any more and to go. We rang on and off all day - no answer. We go home, and immediately had to go out again - and didn't get back til 9.00. We decided it was too late for dd to ring the missing friend and she'll see her at school tomorrow.
I haven't rung the parents - I suppose I'm thinking that if the girl was doing something else and using us as a cover story then she needs a chance to explain herself to dd without being "shopped"by me. But they are only 12 - and maybe she needs to be shopped. I feel I haven't handled this situation well - but I'm not sure what I should have done.

she doesn't need shopping by you - if her mother gave a shit she would check where her kid was.

I reckon she told her parents she was going out with us, and then went somewhere else - don't think it's her parents' fault!

I'm taking it her parents are both out all day?

seriously, if my kids say " i am going out with x" i check with x's parents tha she is really going t be there.

Yes - actually her mother is on a business trip somewhere and her father was at work.

yes i do - and he other thing is by actually talking to the parent - it is inferred that i am aware that they are actingin loco parentis - they know i know they are responsible for my child and nowt has to be said.
