Reading Festival Help

My daughter is going to reading festival next week for the first time. She has the day tickets for Fri and Sat. Could someone please help with what sort of times she will need to be there/bag-check procedures she might face/where to go etc? Just any tips/routine that will happen for day tix would be appreciated.

Oh also - she asks about the silent disco headphones - we are unsure if she should buy them or if they are just for those camping.

So from memory when you arrive they give you your wristband and do a cursory check of your bag. The wifi can be crap so have tickets backed up.

To go into the main area a where bands see they will do another bag search looking for alcohol. You can take in sealed bottles of water but not open ones.

My tips for what to take are a small drawstring backpack rather than a bulky one. (Easier to dance with and can’t be easily opened without you being aware) Some loo role as it usually runs out, hand sanitizer, and a clear zip lock bag to put your phone in if it rains.

How is she getting there? Taxis can be hard to get home. Not impossible, but a long wait.

There are also sniffer dogs before you even get into the site.

It takes ages to get through security and then Yoh have to walk mikes through the camps to get to the stages. Allow a couple of hours for of there is an early that she wants to see

@shortpoetwill my 17yo daughter be allowed a plastic pouch with alcohol in? thanks for the help - the ziploc is a great idea! She will be getting train there, and i’ll pick her up.

Open Qs: Where should she wait/what time will i need to pick her up? will she be able to get from wembley central to reading station with her zip card?

Ds2 and his mates always took alcohol back in the day. Shoved it in the bottom of their bags. No one ever found it and confiscated it. Their first time was aged 17. Camped and came home on the Monday smelling of campfires. One tip: tell your daughter to take a camping chair. She won’t believe she needs one but she will

We always snuggle in vodka in collapsible drink pouches. One in each bra cup. Just buy coke from the ice cream van when inside

She def won’t be allowed the alcohol so she will need to hide it to stop it being confiscated.
and def no to camping chairs on a day ticket.

I’d advise as comfortable shoes as she is happy to wear & it’s very dusty so not light coloured. I typically average 25k of steps each day at the festival.

No she wont be able to use zip card as far as Reading

I am going to Reading Festival with my teenagers on Saturday. From what I understand, alcohol isn’t allowed to be brought in, and will probably be harder to sneak in for day ticket holders. She can’t bring a camping chair. Silent disco is open to all and can be booked through the Reading Festival app, she can then go to the venue of her choice (there’s a list on the app) show them the booking confirmation and collect her headphones x

Having looked at the schedule.. The last set for day ticket holders looks like it finishes around 1130 each night, they then have DJs going through the night.

If you are driving to the Festival today one of the major routes into Reading the A4074 is closed at the moment due to a gas leak. Could be days before it's open. Will cause a lot of traffic problems

I hope everyone is giving their kids the riot act on fires at Reading this year. Every year some of them go nuts on Sunday night and start lighting campfires, which would be disastrous with how completely dead the grass is after this summer. The teeny bit of rain we’re getting right now is too little, too late to green things up to any level of fire resistance, it will take just a few hours of sun to dry it all out again.

You can, but they’re very very limited. It’ll be if people come, spend some time there and then leave. So not guaranteed x
