What have you done to ruin your teenager's summer so far?

I have:

• Woken DS up "too fast" to unload the dishwasher when I got home from work at 7pm.
• Locked down DD's phone after 3 hours of asking her to put away the vast array of dirty crockery, nail art supplies and dirty socks decorating the sofa.
• Booked a holiday in accommodation without a swimming pool.
• Arranged to take DS and DD on a work trip abroad with me.
• Refused to exclude DD from said work trip at DS's request.

How have you ruined your teenager's summer?

Not me directly, but France, who insist that men wear trunks in their pools not long shorts. This is apparently somehow my fault.

errrr you do realise a) every single man at the pool is wearing identical shorts? And b) all women always have worn tight swimwear regardless of their size, how self conscious they are.

Me again. Trying for break #2. DD 13 refused to get out of bed for the 3 day break at the beginning of the school holidays and stupid me booked a week away. Yesterday we were going to drive half way to the holiday place and stay at a relatives. Car was packed. DD refused to get out of bed. Long and short of it, we didn't go. So round 2 today, let's see if I can get her out.

Honestly I know this is a lighthearted thread but this is shocking.
I wouldn’t be taking the spoilt brat anywhere.

Problem is we can't leave her alone in the house for a week. She's 12. Trust me, if it was a day out I'd be leaving her. I did threaten to leave her at her nans for a week but it's not fair on my mum putting up with her.

I took DS to gardens and castles on holiday.

Shit... that's practically Stately Homes...😱

He can't tell me what he would actually rather do, and he did have a lot of doss time on his tablet at the campsite. I also went swimming with him 5 times so I don't think we need to phone Childline just yet.

I have also had the audacity to jog/ walk at my own pace at parkrun rather than sulkily shuffle along at the back listening to him whinging (he wanted to go). I did rejoin him for the last km after finishing and him accepting the offer, but that was wrong too.

Jokes aside a 12 year old point blank refusing to get up and delaying the start of a family holiday is genuinely shocking. Are there additional needs here?

Well my 12 year old refused to get up or pack until 10 minutes before the taxi arrived to take us to the airport.

But unless you have a plan B in place it’s nearly impossible to mitigate this. You can’t drag them kicking and screaming into the taxi.

I did however not bring her on the next mini break we were planning (she stayed at her Dad’s).

I suspect additional needs but nothing diagnosed. And not sure that excuses it anyways.

By giving him a sibling, we went shopping today and his little sister managed to get her head stuck inside the handle of a wheelie suitcase. As I’m a very responsible parent I laughed my head off so much at first I couldn’t help her (she was fine and not upset). Anyway, its the worst thing thats ever happened in his life and we showed him up so much he might die.

We’re currently in McDonalds having a late lunch, he has an absolutely cracking pissed off face that keeps making me smile, as you can imagine me smiling is the second worst thing that has happened in his entire life.
