Would a supermarket own-brand have performed equally well?

You can probably pay ££££s for some fancy medical grade 'friction reducer' or just use ordinary washing up liquid. The people who volunteer for Mountain Rescue tend to be practical, resourceful types so it's not surprising they went for the simple cheap solution.

Own brand probably works just as well, we find it fine for the limited amount of washing up we do (dishwasher). However, I've sworn off branded cleaning products after buying both Fairy Liquid when it was on offer and Persil non bio because they didn't have any Costco own brand and found that they both fucking stank and explains why a relative's food and containers always tastes of flowery chemicals. She must be an enthusiatic user of Fairy.

Thanks for the informative reply, which is more than I was expecting for my frankly facetious post. I also have a dishwasher but use washing up liquid when camping. I can never remember which supermarket own brands are crap (some of them are) and which ones are any good, so I always use Fairy as it reliable does the job. I haven't yet noticed that it makes my crockery stink, I wonder if anyone else has noticed a Fairy-related pong?
