My son is 13 and just doesn’t care about anything, authority, responsibilities, going to school and just generally making the right choices in life.
He is currently being assessed for ADHD, but is this a symptom of that, or just being a teenager? I mean he literally says “mum lives too short” and “I don’t care” I mean sometimes I’m just lost for words.

I have boys aged 12 and 14. They are doing alright, but they often say things like that too. They don't see the point in doing anything they don't enjoy.

Keep listening to him, encourage him to talk to you. Offer other perspectives, but don't criticize too much. Keep encouraging him to do stuff that is positive with his time - sports, hobbies, time with friends or family, time outdoors.

With enough love and stability they can grow through it.

Thankyou ❤️ it’s hard being a mum of a teenage boy😢 I’ll never give up with trying any sort of strategy though x

There is a lot of stuff to read about it. It's a bit old now, but some people really rate Steve Biddulph's 'Raising Boys Differently.' I 've only looked at the first few chapters, but there' s some interesting ideas there.
