My 13 year old son wants to quit football, he's been in his team for 5 years. I feel really sad about this but he’s adamant he doesn’t enjoy it anymore. He does taekwondo and is starting badminton, but I think I worry he’ll just be gaming all the other time and not doing much else. Has anyone else had this? Is it easy to get back into if he changes his mind and wants to join another team?

If he wants to quit, let him. Maybe suggest he plays out the current season with his team (our league ends sometime in early May, if yours is similar then try to convince him a few more weeks is the right thing to do).

I think as long as he has other sports which he enjoys more then its fine to let him make the decision.

Could you replace one of his football days with an extra session of badminton, martial arts, couch to 5k? Just something to keep him exercising as regularly as he used to?

Yes, I think I’m going to do that, I think it’s more me that has the issue with it, as we’ve been going to the club for such a long time! I’ll let him leave, it’s his decision and I can’t make him do something he doesn’t want to anymore!
