High school Prom etiquette.. anyone?

DS (alomst 16) is going to the school prom next month. (He's just finishing his GCSEs so is a school leaver.) We've hired a suit; he has a prom date (a fairly close friend/ex girlfriend.. don't know if there's "anything" between them now; not allowed to know these things...!)

Can anyone tell me about etiquette regarding what he should get her.. eg a corsage? Is this just an american thing.. or outdated.. or what? I suggested it.. he didn't know what I was talking about, so maybe they don't do it over here/now.. but his prom date has been texting him pics of her dress.. maybe she's expecting one?

He doesn't want to do the wrong thing!

Corsages didn't feature at all in my oldest DCs' proms - I think it's an American thing. But then neither of them are exactly sticklers for etiquette so I might be wrong!

Didn't have anything like that at my school leavers prom. My sister is just about to leave and they aren't doing anything like that either.

some people had them at mine. why doesn't he ask his friends?

Don't think corsages necessary. Not certain though. Am going by dd1 (mixed school) who went to her prom with a gaggle of girls, and dd2 (all-girls school) whose prom was practically boy-free, so I don't know what etiquette would apply in a "date" situation.

A florist in a nearby village to us was advertising them, but I don't think it is generally expected, most at my daughter's school are going with female friends and not "dates"

Here in Ireland it's called the Debs and it's customary for the boy to give the mother of the girl a box of chocolates or flowers, and the girl a corsage (usually a wrist corsage nowadays)
I'd say he should talk to some boy who went last year and find out what's the done thing.

My dd had her prom in April.

There were a few wrist corsages on show but not many tbh.

Some of the couples had matching colours ,boys had same colour tie as girl's dress.

Bit ott imo but you know what they're like .

My dd went with a large group of boys and girls so she avoided all that.

our lads matched their tie to the girl's dress, nobody had a corsage, but several boys brought flowers for their 'dates' and gave the flowers to the girls as they picked them up.

Ah yes flowers - good thinking, can't really go wrong then can he! I will suggest this.. maybe he get some flowers to match her dress
