Adapalene for acne?

Has anyone’s teenager been prescribed adapalene for acne? Our daughter has moderate acne on back and chest, and a little on her face. I am always a bit wary of topical treatments so would be interested in other people’s experiences.

we had asked for tetracyclines but GP said adapalene is first treatment to try.

Thanks.

That’s correct - if you Google NICE acne guidelines topical adapalene is one of the first line choices.

We also asked for tetracyclines for my teenage DS when his acne grew worse and were prescribed adapalene. It’s certainly helped.

It’s a retinoid and will help.

Personally I’d ask for Epiduo which is a combo of adapalene and benzoyl peroxide. Although then you do have to deal with the bleaching effects from the BP.

Antibiotics can have a lot of negative side effects on gut, thrush etc so worth trying this first.
