Hi. My 18 year old DS has good A levels but isn't going to uni and has started job hunting - he has career plans but his chosen field aren't recruiting until next year and he might want to do some travelling first. He's done training to be a lifeguard and has been applying for jobs that are linked to this. There are plenty of jobs advertised via Indeed etc but his online applications are getting no replies. He went into one work place to follow up his application as his phone broke for two days, and the manager said he would definitely look out for his application and that he was impressed that he came in. He didn't hear from him. He's also planning to do some further training that relates to his chosen profession which takes place in a three week block but he's not entirely sure when. That he'll have to take three weeks off means that he's not applying for set hours (as he doesn't think he'll get the time off) but rather anything that offers flexible work. For those who've been in this position before, it there anything else he should be doing rather than applying for ads online. Also what do you teens do during the day. Apart from applying for jobs, he's not doing anything productive. What did/do your teens do?

My Ds17 qualified as a NPLQ at Easter. In the summer he typed up a CV, printed out 50 copies and went into every sports centre, private school and hotel that had a pool, within 10 miles, talked to reception, left a paper cv, asked for the email address of the recruiting manager, and then emailed, attaching his cv.

He got a call in the last week of August and started work last month. He's doing Saturday afternoon shifts and training once every two weeks.

Thanks Meadowfinch - that's so helpful. I'll get him to do the same!

What’s he been doing since taking his A’Levels? If he’s not been working he needs to start volunteering to add to his CV. We have a local swimming group for disabled people, if you’ve got one of those running locally that would be perfect.

As for what they do, running, baking, cooking, going to the gym, seeing friends and family. DD is the same age and has been working, doing all of the above and has decorated her room (plus watching a lot of Netflix).
