am sat next to my 15 yo dd,

just for a laugh, but quite serious in that i know all yo SENSIBLE MUMMIES will chose the right thing

the story:

DD wants to go to a Manga conference in LONDON in October. she is 15. She will be going with DS's GF who is 18 and her friends also 18

stopping overnight.

dd things i am a " an untrusting mother, who needs to know that her daughter is maturer than her age"

i said "no fucking way"

you choose.

  • i have final say anyway

c'mon she's sat right here

Yes from me, within a few months she will technically be able to leave home, get married and have kids without your approval or permission anyway and knowing your excellent teen parenting skills she will be trustworthy anyway.

Boundaries set and clear beforehand, including regular 'check-ins' including one last thing at night (so you can check she's not drinking and safe at the hotel).

I know quite a few manga fans and let's just say they do tend to be on the boring 'sensible' side of the teenage fence (IYKWIM), sorry custy's daughter!!

I would say yes

is your dd sensible?

let her go you mean old meany

Oliveoil · 03/06/2008 10:28

my parents were great, strict at first and then slowly let me stay out later

always came back when they said I had to so when I asked to stay at friends it was ok

(they didn't know I was going to clubs but I will keep that bit quiet from custy)

Wisteria · 03/06/2008 10:31

I think that's the point really, presumably she knew when she asked you that you would more than likely say no, but instead of lying and pretending she was just staying at a friend's, she told you so in my extremely humble opinion she has already proved herself to be responsible and trustworthy.

At that age I was never allowed to do anything so just stopped asking and went anyway, leaving myself in far more dangerous situations as no one would have known where I was

Oliveoil · 03/06/2008 10:33

I agree

you are a fab mum imo as you seem to have a good, open relationship with your teenagers (which I think is rare?) so I would reward her truthfullness annd let her go

unless she is saying she is going to Mango and is really seeing Boyzone or some other shit, in that case, ground her

Wisteria · 03/06/2008 10:34

PMSL at mango

let her go

manga will not be inspiring any potentially "cool" lads and also if she is (god forbid) hurt in any way the girlfriend will be in SERIOUS trouble with both you and your son so that will stop her being lax in protecting your daughter

let her go

RedFraggle · 01/09/2008 13:34

No chance - I know the stuff I would have been up to if I had been let out at that age!

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 01/09/2008 13:37

I went to London with my boyfriend for a weekend aged 15. We went to loads of art galleries and museums, and I swear my gcse art grade was bumped because my teacher was so impressed by what I'd been to.

We got very drunk one night and snogged on the lions in trafalgar square. We got back to our hotel and slept until the cleaner woke us up. Then went out and explored further.

It's one of my fondest memories from my youth.

LucyJones · 01/09/2008 13:38

think custy already decided on this in June
