Bi sexual question

(not sure if I have spelt that right)
ds has got me curious.
we were talking today and he happened to mention a girl at school being bi(as he called it) he said that he knows quite a few boys and girls at school who are bi(his word)

It kind of took me by surprise as I know I am ancient but I can't remeber any one being so open about this when I was at school. so I don't know much.
I did wonder if a young person of 14/15 would know for sure.
anyone get what I am rambling on about and can enlighten me a bit about the modern world.
(as I said I am just curious and what to be informed so I say right stuff)

Haven't heard of anyone bi in ds's yr 8 class but he does occasionally mention that someone's gay in a very matter of fact way, eg I'll ask what the gossip of the day is and he'll say Katherine's split with Matt and Michael's started going out with Alex.

Doesn't sound like there's any judging going on but it's hard to tell 2nd hand.

I think it's more likely to be they are undecided and don't want to commit either way atm. Kids these days are far more open about sexuality than they were. There is no longer quite such a stigma about being "different" and they do chat about it freely.

Is Alex a boy then? Not short for alexandra.

I think it is a bit 'trendy' to be bi as a teenager 'nowadays' [oldfart]...doubt many of them 'do' much about it tbh.

Not saying bisexual isn't 'real', just that it is also trendy. Suspect most will fall on either side of teh fence eventually.

Maybe more openess among particular groups of kids rather than entire school population.

mshadowsnumber1fan · 22/05/2008 21:54

tigana thats what I thought. it seems like they are experimenting.
I do like the way that ds is not fazed by it and doesn't judge(I have proof of that)

When I was a teenager (a loooong time ago, early 80s) it was a bit cool and arty to be bi. Now it is again (the whole emo thing). It's good that it's cool rather than something to be bullied about and frankly nearly everyone is potentially bisexual and it's better to be relaxed about it than afraid or hostile.

mshadowsnumber1fan · 22/05/2008 21:59

I have to say they all(I mean ds and his mates can't speak for the whole school) seem totally unfazed. I think ds was more shocked by my lack of knowlege

Are you concerned that he might be testing the waters regards to your view on bisexuality by mentioning other bi people, just to see how you react?

mshadowsnumber1fan · 22/05/2008 22:13

no. he knows we don't have any hang ups in that way. we were talking about his mate(or he was) who had the lovely job of choosing between 2 girls. on might have a bf abd the other one is Bi. so it just came up iynwim

Just reading out of interest and wanted to know, is this thread only for Shadows fans?

charliegal · 23/05/2008 13:54

and tigers?

ShadowOfBlueTiger · 23/05/2008 15:04

It must be. I have nothing to add about bisexuality, though!
