Can you recommend a card/board game

for young teens? Something fun/a great icebreaker, but not gross or inappropriate in any way. Preferably only taking about 15 minutes, but that bears repeating so you could play in 2 or 3 times in a row with them, without getting bored. Ideally a suitable size to take on a plane. Thanks!

Exploding Kittens, Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza, Avocado Smash.

We enjoy playing Mantis with our 12 year old. Our 7 year old enjoys it too though he never wins as he likes 'stealing' too much to ever cash in his cards for points.

We do love exploding kittens. If you have some playing cards then Cheat is a fun game.

Hedonism · 11/06/2025 06:39

The Mind is good, we played it all week with our 11 & 14yos when we were on holiday over half term. Also Uno is a classic.

I'd definitely take cards too. Pit is a fabulous game if you can learn how to play it.

Hoe could I have forgotten Uno?

Oops sorry, Pit needs an actual set, I misremembered it as being played wuh normal cards.

Teach then to play poker?

SunflowersandSangria · 11/06/2025 06:47

Exploding kittens and Bananagrams are fab!

PrincessofHyrule · 11/06/2025 06:54

On classic card games -shithead is a lot of fun. It doesn't appear to have a more family friendly name. It appears in my penguin book of card games as shithead. I call it Loser for the kids

My teens favourites are Monopoly Deal and Organ Attack

reallyalurker · 11/06/2025 07:25

I came in to say Exploding Kittens too, but reading your full question, I think it takes longer than 15 minutes. Dobble is faster, but would depend on the age of your young teenagers whether they'd be interested.

Rhino superhero.
Zombie dice

Exploding Kittens is the favourite here! Uno, Skyjoe, Othello, Monopoly (One Piece) and Master Mind are games my 12 y old enjoys as well. Staying on this thread because I would love some ideas as well.

Oh, I forgot: Unstable Unicorns!

Poetry for Neanderthals is good
I've used it as an icebreaker game at work sometimes.

(I just didn't use the bit where you hit people with a giant inflatable stick!)

CassandraWebb · 11/06/2025 07:32

Or games like monopoly deal etc

Or for portability we enjoy the "1 2 3 4 player" game app on the phone, it's got loads of different games on it like ludo, battleships etc
