You’re so slay. You got drip, bro.

What do yours say?? 😆

My DD (14) says things I don't understand ALL the time, like Ohio (???), preppy, rizzler, and also slay. It's quite confusing, but also entertaining. She hates it when I try to copy her slang though, but I've found it good to just have an understanding.

This is the best article I've found to get to grips with it all (it's from an app that my daughter uses for her confidence and wellbeing called luna). They have parent articles on their website, here it is: weareluna.app/parents/guides/navigating-difficult-scenarios/teen-slang-dictionary/

Deep (it’s not that deep, it’s not that big a deal)
Fam (anyone you are on friendly terms with)
Violation / ing - (taking the piss)

HolyStyleFailBatman · 13/06/2025 18:15

My son told me today that I am peak. He maintains it’s a compliment.

I have chosen to believe him.

That's actually really sweet. It means you're the best

Emotional damage
Slay
Queen
You're so preppy
And do eye rolls count?? I swear I can hear them and it's at least 1072 times a day.

YouLando · 15/06/2025 14:27

My 15 year old DD keeps saying 'low-key' all the time, about everything. As in "I low-key think xyz", or "he is low-key doing xyz". Why??

OvaHere · 15/06/2025 14:33

K

This letter of the alphabet is the response I get to most texts I send. 😁

Lavendersong · 15/06/2025 14:36

I’ve just sent DD a text saying ‘ You got drip’ to see what response I get because I’ve never heard it. Probably because I don’t have it Grin

BobbieTables · 15/06/2025 14:42

Things here are peak or elite if they are really good.
We must not 'deep it' - i.e. over analyse it
We are 'low key' bored/boring at times
Some of us have riz or are drippy (but not me)
Slay is over
Cuz and bro are roadman speak.

SqueamishHamish · 15/06/2025 14:53

'Lo-key' is added into sentences. 'Goofy ah:. Adding 'ah' into sentences. 'I don't give a gaff'. 'rizz' as in charisma (I think). Trying to ignore it to be honest.

In my day this meant bad! “Ahh that’s peak” if something went wrong.

purpleme12 · 15/06/2025 14:55

A lot of 'innit'

purpleme12 · 15/06/2025 14:56

And 'bruh' which is bemusing because she tells me she doesn't know what it means but she knows when to use it! 😆

Mumteedum · 15/06/2025 15:52

My 13 year old isn't too bad with the slang so far but I do have to use urban dictionary to understand my students 😂

I love that you texted it to her 😆 Please tell us the response!

Lavendersong · 15/06/2025 16:06

She literally just replied ‘What?’ Grin

Lavendersong · 15/06/2025 16:09

@blandana

She’s 18 and we are SE

so I guess some slang is area dependent because she is very sociable so will have heard it if it’s used here

I could feel her rolling her eyes as PP @dontcomeatme

Lavendersong · 15/06/2025 16:11

Oh DD says she has heard it but it’s used ironicly by 14/15 year olds

there was no context to me randomly texting her so she was a bit ConfusedHmm mum is being a weirdo again Grin

blandana · 15/06/2025 16:12

Drip refers to your fashion/style, so if someone is drippy they are stylish.

Explaining it in plain English seems so twee 🤣

She’s probably not impressed by your efforts 😆

I love to drop random bits of yoof slang in just to wind them up (and deliberately get it wrong).
Tell her it’s cap 😆

You just want DD to think I’m more of an idiot than she already does GrinGrinGrin

blandana · 15/06/2025 16:32

Never heard pookie @Dustinsfrontteethsounds cute but apparently apart from the term of endearment it can also mean crackhead Confused
