Tie for DS black suit

Not sure if this is the place to post but DS has wedding to go to in summer, black suit (will double up as prom suit) but can't decide what colour tie, don't want it to look too funereal, looked at lots on line, any ideas? Thought maybe something like paisley to add splash of colour ?

What colour shirt? He can lighten the funereal look by wearing something non white, and that could help steer the tie choice.

In fact, does he even need a tie as a guest? Depends how fussy the wedding is. I would have thought a shirt with the top button undone would be fine unless it's super strict.

I did think about a coloured shirt but DS's GF said NO 😆
Be good if he didn't have to wear a tie..am considering that...
