How do you deal with a 12 yo that skips school. Regardless of having moved from parent to parents, tried grounding ect. Just not interested. I'm at my wits end.

What sanctions are school putting in place? Do you know why they are skipping, they may not have a reason but if they do, start there. It's hard.

Marei · 12/05/2025 14:17

Simply because he doesn't like the teacher. Or think being influenced by friends. Yes it is hard. Missed 3 periods today! Had school on phone. Only in year 1.

He is in Y1, I thought he was a teenager. What are school doing? What are his triggers? How is his behaviour at home? Any SEN? I assume you have met with school and they have a plan around reasonable adjustments. Are they applying for an EHCP?

I have met with school,he has ADHD, but refuses to go said appointment. Home behaviour is very up and down. He has 3 sisters,2 older 1 younger. Only boy in the family, I've tried everything,he's been hard work since a baby, not getting any support from anyone apart from my sister whom is so great. My rock!

Primary Year 1 like he is 5-6 years old or Secondary Year 1 like he is 11-12?

Comedycook · 12/05/2025 19:17

What are they doing while they should be at school?

I'd ban all tech by the way while he's doing this.

The OP clearly said he is 12, so obviously first year of secondary.

EduCated · 12/05/2025 19:17

OP says in the first post he is 12, so first year of senior school.

DiaryofWimpy · 12/05/2025 19:23

Copious amounts of meetings with the school. A part time time table of classes he “liked”

Im so pleased we are past that stage now it was an awful time 😢
