Driving Lessons?

Is there still a shortage for driving lessons? My eldest won't be 17 until September so I can't even apply for his provisional yet. Should I be booking lessons in yet? We are in Wigan if this makes any difference.

You can apply for a provisional DL from 15 1/2.

We booked 2 months before. It seems easier again round here.

Waiting lists for lessons here are huge, I got my two eldest booked in at least 6 months before they turned 17.

Mine turns 17 in August, already have provisional licence, theory test booked and on waiting list for instructor

I tried to apply for one today, it wouldn't let me until 3 months before he turns 17.

Are you in the UK? You should definitely be able to apply now:

We didn’t have any trouble getting an instructor, it can be hard getting one that matches your availability. But most round here didn’t want to commit to anything till closer to child’s 17th. I just kept contacting them to show I was serious.

My teen turns 17 this summer. You can book lessons online (handy!). We’ve been booking lessons as they become available.

So far, we’ve booked the first 5 lessons and we’ve booked the theory test too.

This bit confused me as I'm having to use the old site to apply as his passport expired over a year ago. I didn't want to pay £35 now only to have to pay it again!

Apply for a provisional licence
Are you eligible?Qualifying Disability Benefit
As you are under 17 and are not receiving personal independence payment, you will only receive a provisional moped licence.

If you don't have a valid passport or one that has expired within 12 months, you can apply by post. Just need birth certificate and another piece if ID.

Confused as my DD applied for her provisional license 7 months before her 17th birthday! You don’t need a license to book driving lessons, or at least I didn’t.
