Teens/night work

Hi
just wanted opinions please on this situation- I’ve been offered a promotion at work, great job and good money. I’d need to work 2 nights a week 4.30pm till 9am.

I would be home the rest of the week bar a day shift every other Sat.

I have a Son just turned 16 who I would be leaving alone, my night shifts are not on weekend nights.

He is very responsible, can cook, happy to be alone, very independent.

On the whole great kid, works out daily, eats well etc but I know he’s started to smoke weed occasionally.

Would you leave him for the 2 nights and take the new job? I’m a single parent with no support but friends on hand in emergencies.

You seem very relaxed about the weed use. I wouldn’t be. And wouldn’t trust him to be left.

He's not a child, I wouldn't second guess it.
If anything good practice of independence skills for if he moves out in the next couple of years/goes to uni.

@Wolfiefan I’m not relaxed but I know usually teenagers will experiment with either alcohol or weed- we have had discussions about both. I’d rather he is able to talk to me as if he wants to do it, like with most teens he will find a way.

Alcohol isn’t illegal. Weed is. Plus you don’t know who he’s mixing with to get it or exactly what he’s taking. I wouldn’t trust him and wouldn’t leave him.

@Wolfiefan I get what you’re saying, it’s a hard situation- when I’m home I’m in bed asleep by 9pm! So if he wanted to have a smoke I’d be none the wiser!

It stinks. You’d know.

@babyfornine thanks yes I think it would help with general life skills too.
