Just that really....we are thinking seriously about moving about 2 hours away to be nearer family. Our son is in year 9 and currently choosing his options. Has anyone had experience of this? Has your child managed ok?

I was thrown out in year 9. Dropped on my dad's doorstep. Missed 2 months of school but still managed to leave with excellent GCSEs. So Id say your son will be fine 😊

I'd move now while he's still in year 9, or not until after he's finished his GCSEs. My DS is in year 10 and there's no way I'd move him mid-way through these two years. His new school might not have the same options or exam boards so he'd have to catch up.

I’d say the summer between Y9 and 10 is the ideal time to switch. After that it would be a bit of a nightmare and schools would be reluctant to take him on mid GCSE course due to differing exam boards and teaching etc. I know for a fact that DD’s school doesn’t take on new GCSE pupils after the start of Y10.
