Driving theory test - apps?

Where do I start?

My son will be 17 soon. I need to apply for his provisional licence and will take him out practising for a few weeks before he starts lessons properly (I’ve booked these but there was no availability so will be a few weeks gap).

In the meantime I gather he needs to book and pass his theory test before the proper test can be considered. Any advice for best app to use, or any to avoid?

I'm sure ds bought the ones that were recommended on the .gov site. I'll see what they were
