I'm not concerned about this but I'm just wondering if it's odd. Both my kids spell their name slightly different and always have.. one of them spells his name with an I instead of Y (think zaid instead of zayd..) when his birth certificate and legal documents have the Y spelling and the other doesn't write the H at the end of her name.

im letting them change their last name via deedpoll soon (ex was abusive, they hate having his last name.. my last name is similar but they still want the change). My eldest can already legally do it himself but he needs help with the process and the other is 13 and needs my consent. so I also ask them if they want the spellings of their first names changed.. they dont! My oldest only seems to choose a middle name on top of the last name change... not sure how to feel about that.

i find it a little odd, now thinking about it. I even got used to spelling their names the wrong way 😂

I'm sure I have known people over the years who have done this, but it's quite unusual that yours both have I suppose. I used to teach a Sarah who spelt it Sara but it was pronounced Sarah and it took me ages to remember it, which used to annoy her. Now I wonder if it was a similar situation to yours (I'm secondary and it was years ago so it's not her!).

They ought to be careful it doesn't cause them problems with legal documents down the line. My mother actually told me the wrong spelling of my middle name (added an additional letter it doesn't have) and it was fine for years but last time I renewed my passport it was identified as an issue and it was only then I noticed on my birth certificate that it's not actually spelt how I thought. It wasn't a major issue but it did cause a delay. I'd encourage them to use the deed poll change to make the spellings they want legal to avoid any future hassle.
