Ds14 got drunk last night

DS14 went to a party where there wasn't officially any alcohol but he drunk some in the park beforehand and was really drunk when he came home. I'm not happy about any of this but what freaked me out was what he was saying to me when he came home. Basically, he talked to me for about 2 hours about Jesus and the messages he received from him. Lots of quotes from the bible and talk about heaven and hell. 😳 He's not normally like this, doesn't go to church etc. I don't know what I am asking really but just wanted to ask if this seems normal??? This morning he doesn't want to talk about it.

Having some alcohol before a party at 14 is relatively normal. Talking gibberish about Jesus for 2 hours, less normal. Is there any chance he could have had drugs? THC vape maybe?

mumonthehill · 29/09/2024 13:22

I think you may need to talk to him about drugs as well.

Freemanhardyandwillis · 29/09/2024 13:28

That's my fear that there was something else going on too but I don't know what I should be looking out for.

He denies any drugs.

I was also going to suggest he may have tried something alongside the alcohol. Can you raise it in a non confrontational way?

Clarabella77 · 29/09/2024 13:33

If he flat out denies drugs, it's hard to know where to go with that sometimes. Could you talk more generally about the risks of being spiked at parties (vapes or drinks) and in a way that makes it clear that you are on his side, ask if that could ever be possible in his friends' group.

Freemanhardyandwillis · 29/09/2024 13:34

What do you mean by being spiked with a vape?

The drinking at 14... I'm guilty of that 😬. But the talking about god etc... if not religious, I'd be worried about drugs, but probably more than that, I'd be worried about what rabbit hole he may have gone down online. Drugs won't give you the ability to quote from the bible. He'd have had to have heard or read the quotes to know them.

Nothing wrong with being religious of course, but the extreme side of religion can be a dangerous place and can come with unhealthy ideas about relationships and views on women etc...

Vapes can be spiked.

Yeah this is a good point too. It could be that the alcohol caused him to open up about things he secretly believes. So maybe in a few days ask him about some of the things he was saying to gauge his response.

Freemanhardyandwillis · 29/09/2024 13:57

Just to add dh is Catholic and ds went to Sunday school so has a bit of biblical knowledge. After first communion he decided he didn't want to go to church anymore (fine). So he hasn't for at least 2 or 3 years.

I would ask him about the Jesus stuff in a non-judgemental way. It may be something he’s looking to get into again. You never know when people are drunk whether they are spouting gibberish or revealing a truth.

Lurkingandlearning · 29/09/2024 14:03

The long talk about religion was weird, even if he’d taken drugs either knowingly or spiked. But drugs wouldn’t give him the ability to say quotes from the bible. If you are surprised that he knows these quotes I would be more worried that someone was influencing/grooming him. Not necessarily with sexual intent possibly a cult, or both.

If you know he already knew those quotes, I’d be wondering why h didn’t want to talk about it the next day

Hairyfairy01 · 29/09/2024 14:23

Have you looked into his online history? Sounds like he has been doing lots of 'research' online and may be getting groomed to me.

Yes, can't see anything strange in it though.

He might have to learn quotes in RS.

GreenGrass28 · 30/09/2024 00:10

Just to say online history won't show you things he's viewing on certain platforms like TikTok where what they view is based on an algorithm based off what content users show an interest in. I sometimes stray into the odd weird video and then have to purposely steer the algorithm away from that topic to stop it becoming the main thing I see. That's how people (especially young and impressionable ones) get brain washed by conspiracy theories or people like Andrew Tate.

Freemanhardyandwillis · 30/09/2024 08:30

@GreenGrass28 Thanks. I didn't realise that. Steep learning curve ahead!
