Child Benefit

Son has sat his GCSEs this year. Results day is 22nd August.

He has applied and been offered a place at the school sixth form for his A levels. (Dependant on grades as usual)

I've received the letter about child benefit and they need to know by 31st August what he plans to do for the next two years.

Should I return the form with his intentions to go to sixth form and post it now, or wait till results day then fill the online form in? We are on holiday for the whole of August.

Husband reckons send the form now and if for some weird reason he doesn't go to sixth form, then phone and let them know.

What's everyone else doing?

Do it now. I did it on line. Just asks if going further education really and a few other questions.

The form is on the back of the letter too. I was thinking of doing it now as it's one less thing to think about.

I take it it makes no difference as to which subjects as the form asks for A levels or Btech or do you need to specify the course?

Just send it back and then you can let them know if things change.

I think it just states full time education rather than the specific type. I filled the one for DD in online last month, same situation, although it was a bit of a faff considering we don't actually get child benefit but I didn't want it to lapse in case things change.

I've done the online version just. The questions are different to what's on the paper version. The paper version asks of you are studying A levels and name of courses, the online just offered a box to tick that covers A levels and BTech.

It's done now so one less thing to think of.

Great glad you are sorted. Probably quicker than sending the form back too.

And I know full well it would sit by the front door for ages waiting for a stamp! 😂

Send it with his intentions then cancel it or amend the claim later if plans change

@YellowphantGrey how odd that they ask different questions in the paper version.

At least it's done now!

I'll be glad when results day is over, DD is quite anxious about it all.

Anxiety starting to build here too, it's awful. I know whatever happens, it will all be ok but you know the teens won't think like that!

Paper questions want to know the subjects being studied, the sixth form or college address, the length of the course, the start and end dates, if the child is receiving any other money and where from, if they are doing the qualifications as part of an apprenticeship, if the qualifications are paid for by an employer their address and where they live during term time and holidays. I think online it was 4 questions

@YellowphantGrey I'm glad I did it online then!

I've assured DD it'll be fine whatever happens, but she has a daily countdown to results day. We're off on holiday tomorrow so hopefully that will distract her!

Good luck to your son, hope it all goes well!
