Our son got a job via an agency in the summer holidays working for a phone shop chain, he was the meet and greet guy.
He then got an evening job as a waiter by just calling into all the pubs and restaurants in the area.

Have you got a local branch of Clarks? They take on summer staff for back-to-school (although they may be fully staffed by now). Or local summer clubs/play schemes? Summer jobs seem to be few and far between these days, even hospitality often want candidates who'll be able to work all year round.

I hate to be negative but I would have thought it’s too late at this point. It’s the kind of thing you need to sort at least a month in advance if it’s going to work out.

unless there is a similarly last minute parent on a local fb group who wants some ad hoc babysitting?

Register with Indeed and Total jobs etc. Email likely places on spec with CV, go round some likely places with a CV, keep an eye out in the town centre as some places still put notices in the windows, ask on local facebook groups and let friends and family know he is looking for a summer job and to let you or him know if they either have anything or if they hear about anything.

He is a little late to the party but if he is proactive and determined he should get something for the last couple of months or few weeks of summer.

My DD was a bit fussy and backward in coming forward and she managed to get something mid August last year. This year she has got work at the same place.
