White socks with sandals?

I was at my daughters high school yesterday for a track meet. 95% of the girls were wearing white tube / athletic socks with Birkinstocks (my daughter included). Is this look a trend with uk teens as well?. I was chatting with my daughter about it & we were curious, so I said I'd ask mumsnet

Socks & slides for the boys. Socks & sandals for the girls. Same Socks too , white with the black Nike swoosh.

White socks with the black swoosh is definitely a thing in the UK.
Usually with trainers here though or slides. My dd asked for some for Christmas. I've never seen any teens around here wearing Birkenstock type sandles at all.

There is a teacher at dds school who wears socks and sandles and that's literally their nickname for him "Oh we had socks and sandles for history today." they all snigger about it so I don't think it's a thing they'd be rushing to wear.
You never know though, fashion changes so fast.
