TW! Is Mental Health brandished too easily…

Hi all, TW!
my 13 year old DD has had a falling out with a couple of her friends (her best friend being one of them) this week. Long story short after many tears I decided to read the messages that these girls were sending her, I noticed that all of them have bought Mental Health into it! My DD said she had had enough of her life and wanted to kill herself, another child told her to do it!
I have had a conversation with my DD about saying such things and if she really feels that way she needs to talk to me, her dad or another adult she trusts, she has assured me she doesn’t feel like ending her life.
Is this the norm these days that mental health is used as a weapon in an argument or as a form of attention seeking?
As someone who has suffered with various states of mental health issues I find it really worrying that it is being thrown around so easily.

Yes, it’s shit but all normal these days so no need to worry that something abnormal is going on there.

Sounds like your DD is having a hard time - she was feeling like ending her life and now her mates have fallen out with her.

Be there for her, prioritise her with your time and attention, guide her towards doing the stuff she enjoys and fan the flames of friendship with someone else to help her move away from this group.

Hope you’re ok - teen years can be stressful for us parents too.

yes, teens do entice each other, often thoughtlessly, into most horrific things. But what is more worrying, that there are adult "professionals" who brandish teen suicide as a way to punish your family for not getting your way.

Teenagers are a difficult stage of life to go through, for parents and the teenager what with their hormones and all that
