Older boyfriend

My friend told us tonight that her older daughter (16) is seeing a guy who's 24. They both share the same hobbies like cultural country dance and both into farming like. Apparently it's "ok to date when the when the guy gets the parents permission" because she's under 17? 17 being the age she can make her own decisions fully.

I'm astonished really. I've got two 13 year old girls I have no problem dating and what not within their year group.

AIBU to think an 6 year age gap at 16 is too much. I didn't know what to say back to my friend. I think I was in shock. I didn't meet the boy but my friend seems to think highly of him. They met back in February

I agree OP 6 years is too much at that age - but the difference between 16 and 24 is 8 years so it’s even worse!

That’s a massive age gap at that age, it’s completely inappropriate that a man in his mid twenties is going after a girl in her mid teens! I don’t care how much they have in common 😫

My bad 8 is even worse! This is what I said to my hubby. He's in agreement it is not appropriate and made a good point even if it was boy 16 and girl 24 still wouldn't be acceptable

Appropriate or not it is not your children so why the judgement?
