Wide toe school shoes?

Hi
My 14 year old is having his ingrown toe nail sorted with surgery in a few weeks. He currently wears quite pointy shoes for school (just standard men's office shoes really) which won't be suitable but I can't find anything affordable that might give him more space while his toe is healing. He's got big feet, size 11-12, but they're not at all wide so I can't just buy him wide fit shoes, he needs some that just aren't pointy at all. All readily available and affordable shoes have at least some sort of pointiness to them, from what I can see.
Does anyone have experience of this and have any suggestions? Thank you!

Will school allow him to wear trainers whilst he recovers from the procedure?

That's a good question! I will contact them and ask. The softer fabric would definitely be beneficial.

Kickers might work? A soft fabric would probably be better though.

I'd ask school. We have several pupils who wear trainers for very legitimate reasons (and who are given a uniform pass). They might also allow him to leave lessons slightly early to avoid busy corridors.
