Can DD's period affect my birth control...?

I've noticed that since my DD (11) has started her period, I've had bad cramps and bleeding whenever she is menstruating, despite having a Mirena coil. I've had very mild occasional cramps/bleeding on the Mirena before she started her period, e.g. when we've had female friends to stay for long stretches of time, but never like this!

Does anyone know if I should be concerned that this could have an impact on the effectiveness of my birth control?? I am not planning on a pregnancy!

Wtf? How can someone else's period affect your birth control?

DaughterNo2 · 16/05/2024 21:08

Oh my god! Seriously?

OneOchreBalonz · 16/05/2024 21:12

It won't affect your birth control but I get cramps my my DDs have periods!

Marblessolveeverything · 16/05/2024 21:16

No her independent body will not impact your independent body.

I understand why you might believe this, there has always been the idea that women's periods sync if they live together. It's been pretty much disproven though, so I think it's much more likely a coincidence.

Haven't you got another thread asking the same thing?

Women who live together or spend a lot of time together tend to get their periods around the same time as each other

Even if so how would that affect someone's coil?

In my experience, periods sync up with women that live in the same house (mine used to sync up with my manager when I started to work full time!!) but I don’t see how it could impact your contraception. I don’t even think that would ever happen

Yes, is that not allowed? I put it in two forums as I didn't know which one would be more suitable for the question. I'm new to the site

Wow, some of your messages on here show me that some parents really aren't out to actually help and support each other 😅 thanks to those who offered useful thoughts and to those who were rude, belittling or condescending... even greater thanks for the laugh you gave me 😘
