What would you do - exams and vomiting bug

My DD has her exams starting today. I've found out that two children in my younger DSs class have had the vomiting bug over the last few days, one is a good friend of DS and they spent a few hours yesterday outside playing together in our street after school. I feel really worried that my DD could catch the bug, she has English literature on Monday. What would you do?

Scrupulous hand washing!

BoxFoxSocks · 10/05/2024 10:44

Nothing. She isn't ill.

Keep your younger child quarantined away from your exam child as best you can. Keep separate bathrooms if possible and clean like a demon!

Find out what the procedure would be on Monday if she’s unwell - who to call.

storminabuttercup · 10/05/2024 10:44

Plenty of handwashing, wipe down surfaces often and if the younger one gets it keep them apart not much else you can do really! Hopefully she won't get it

I could do stay with my parents with him, but wonder if unsettling for him just before another exam

My parents are very hardy and rarely get ill

Hi I feel for you as I am in a very similar situation in that DS's sister has tonsillitis and he is just starting his GCSEs. Quarantining is impossible and to be fair a bit too late now. Just keeping my fingers crossed 🤞 good luck and hope they don't catch the bugs!!!

Droolylabradors · 10/05/2024 14:48

I'm an exams officer.
Even if they are being sick, you send them in. I would put a pupil in another room if they were ill, I've given them sick bags before now.

Advice from exam boards is always ttry to sit the exam if you can.

But hopefully they won't catch it!

Nothing you can do, just make sure they both wash their hands thoroughly and very often !
If you have two toilets you could suggest they use different ones over the weekend if you're worried.
If the younger one comes down with the bug though keep them separate

RabbitsRock · 10/05/2024 15:00

droolylabradors that’s awful!

This is ridiculous.

If someone's sick they shouldn't have to go sit the exam. There should be other measures in place for this.

Droolylabradors · 10/05/2024 15:06

Yes obviously if you are too ill, there are procedures to deal with it.

Jennywren8 · 14/05/2024 18:21

Don't want to jinx it but we didn't get the bug thank god and DC got to do their exam, phew!
