Having the last last word

Teens and other family members absolutely insist on having the last word even when they have misunderstood something.

An example is dd16 saying about its bank holiday on Monday I say so can you have your tutor in the day then? She then shuts me down and has to have the last word. I just say well if you don't want to have in the day you don't have to.

She keeps shutting me down. Having to have the last word.

Lots of my family members are the same.

No one will take even a small suggestion of some alternative idea.

I feel like my teen has completely dominated me and the house.

My sister does the same. And my husband has done the same.

There are people who have to have the last word.

It's about dominating you.

On any subject. It works.

I feel like it's fight or be trampled over.

Is that just my bad situation. Or can anyone else relate to this.
Also think my DD and DH are a bit attention grabbing. They have their own clique. I'm excluded.

They both do it. DD more so. But they both do it.

But this last word thing. Does anyone else relate to that?

Does anyone have any tactics to deal with last word people?

My DD17 did a lot of this last year and at first I would bite back especially if she was being particularly unreasonable. I learnt pretty quickly that you can never win arguments with teens, even if you’re right.

I changed my approach, said my piece and didn’t engage any further so she could have the last word if she wanted. If she was being obnoxious I let her nasty words hang in the air and went about my business.

She has now largely grown out of it and is becoming much more pleasant and we can have interesting conversations without having to have the last word.

Thank you. I'll try.
Mine is insistent. But I will try.
I need a poker face. I immediately look really hurt. I hate it. Or annoyed.
Life is hard. People are hard aren't they.
