Any advice on summer jobs for a 15yo in south east London

Hi all,

We are in Lewisham and my son is keen to find work. Does anyone have any tips about this? He is very good with children but am aware summer camps may feel he is too young. He's up for washing up in a cafe/ restaurant or anything really. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

As an employer I would urge you to let him do the bulk of the thinking and make the approach. I do employ young people and facilitate work experience but never to young people who's parents approach on their behalf.

It's the same as getting a job at any age, talk him through how you would do it. It's a skill, and a targeted numbers game and now's a great age to learn.

My DD got her first job in a local cafe, just by going in and asking. My other DD worked at a soft play centre and got recommended by a school friend who already worked there.

We also have a local facebook group for jobs and sometimes young people ask on there so if you have something similar might be worth him joining it.

Have a look for agencies which might supply temporary waiting staff. Local hotels might want breakfast staff? Not many newspaper delivery rounds left now

Good advice and completely agree. He doesn't really know where to start so just wanted a sense of type of opportunities which might exist. Will resist micro-managing though!

Also be aware that at 15, some employers may not be able to insure them and hence will have a flat 'no' response.
